Solutions for common issues with NoteLLM
Recording Issues
The app does not record audio
- Check microphone permission. Go to Settings > NoteLLM and make sure Microphone is enabled. If it was denied, toggle it on and try again.
- Close other apps using the microphone. If another app (such as a phone call or video chat) is using the microphone, NoteLLM cannot access it at the same time.
- Restart the app. Force-close NoteLLM and reopen it. On iPhone, swipe up from the bottom and swipe the app away; on Mac, right-click the dock icon and choose Quit.
Recording quality is poor
- Move closer to your device. Hold your device 15 to 30 centimeters from your mouth for best results.
- Reduce background noise. Move to a quieter location. Fans, traffic, and crowd noise can all affect quality.
- Check for obstructions. Make sure your hand or a case is not covering the microphone openings.
Transcription Issues
Transcription is inaccurate
- Check the language setting. Make sure the selected language matches the language you are speaking. Mismatched settings are the most common cause of poor transcription.
- Try cloud recognition. If you are using local recognition, switch to cloud mode for higher accuracy. See Recognition Modes.
- Speak clearly. Enunciate words and avoid speaking too quickly. Natural pauses between sentences help the recognition engine.
- Reduce background noise. Ambient noise is a major factor in transcription errors.
Transcription does not start
- Check speech recognition permission. Go to Settings > NoteLLM and make sure Speech Recognition is enabled.
- Check your internet connection (cloud mode). Cloud recognition requires an active internet connection. If you are offline, switch to local mode.
- Restart NoteLLM. Close and reopen the app.
Action Button Issues
The Action Button does not trigger NoteLLM
- Verify the assignment. Go to Settings > Action Button and confirm NoteLLM's shortcut is selected.
- Open NoteLLM once first. The app must be installed and opened at least once before the Action Button shortcut can work.
- Press and hold. The Action Button requires a press-and-hold gesture, not a quick tap.
- Restart your iPhone. If the shortcut does not appear in the Action Button settings, restart your device.

Subscription Issues
My Pro features are not working
- Check your subscription status. Go to Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions and verify that your NoteLLM subscription is active.
- Restore purchases. Open NoteLLM, go to the subscription screen, and tap Restore Purchases.
- Sign in with the correct Apple ID. Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple ID you used to subscribe.
I was charged after canceling
Apple subscriptions renew at the end of the billing cycle. If you canceled close to the renewal date, the charge may have already been processed. Check your cancellation date in Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions. For refunds, visit reportaproblem.apple.com.
General Issues
The app crashes on launch
- Update NoteLLM. Make sure you have the latest version from the App Store.
- Update your OS. NoteLLM requires iOS 16.6+, iPadOS 16.6+, or macOS 13.5+. Update your device if you are on an older version.
- Restart your device. A simple restart often resolves app crashes.
- Reinstall the app. Delete NoteLLM and reinstall it from the App Store. Your subscription will be restored automatically.
