FAQ
Frequently asked questions about NoteLLM
General
What is NoteLLM?
NoteLLM is a voice-to-notes app for Apple devices. It records your voice, transcribes it to text, and saves the result as a note you can search, edit, and organize. It supports English, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.
Which devices does NoteLLM support?
NoteLLM runs on iPhone (iOS 16.6+), iPad (iPadOS 16.6+), Mac (Apple Silicon, macOS 13.5+), and Apple Vision Pro. See Platform Support for full details.
How big is the app?
NoteLLM is just 12.8 MB. It installs quickly and takes up very little storage.
Is NoteLLM free?
Yes. NoteLLM offers a free plan that includes voice recording, local (on-device) speech recognition, multi-language transcription, and full note management. A Pro plan is available for users who want cloud recognition and premium features. See Subscription Plans for details.
Recording and Transcription
How do I start recording?
Open NoteLLM and tap the record button. If you have an iPhone with an Action Button (iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 16 series), you can assign NoteLLM to it for instant recording. See Action Button Setup.
What languages can I transcribe?
NoteLLM supports English, Chinese (Mandarin), Japanese, and Korean. See Multi-Language Transcription.
What is the difference between local and cloud recognition?
Local recognition runs entirely on your device -- it is private, works offline, and has no usage limits. Cloud recognition sends audio to a server for processing and generally delivers higher accuracy. See Recognition Modes for a full comparison.
Can I use NoteLLM offline?
Yes. Local recognition works completely offline with no internet connection required. Cloud recognition requires an internet connection.
How accurate is the transcription?
Accuracy depends on audio quality, background noise, speaking pace, and the recognition mode you use. Cloud recognition typically delivers higher accuracy than local recognition, especially for technical vocabulary. Clear speech in a quiet environment produces the best results in either mode.
Privacy and Data
Does NoteLLM collect my data?
In local recognition mode, NoteLLM collects zero data. Your audio and notes never leave your device. In cloud recognition mode, audio is sent to a server for transcription processing but is not retained afterward. See Privacy.
Where are my notes stored?
All notes are stored locally on your device. NoteLLM does not sync notes to a cloud service.
What permissions does NoteLLM need?
NoteLLM requires microphone access (for recording) and speech recognition permission (for transcription). No other permissions are requested.
Subscription
How do I start the free trial?
When you choose a Pro plan (monthly or yearly), a 3-day free trial begins automatically. You will not be charged during the trial.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Go to your device's Settings, tap your Apple ID, then Subscriptions, find NoteLLM, and tap Cancel Subscription. See Subscription Plans for step-by-step instructions.
Can I share my subscription with family members?
NoteLLM Pro subscriptions are tied to your individual Apple ID. Family Sharing is not currently supported.
What happens if I cancel Pro?
You keep Pro access until the end of your billing period. After that, you revert to the free plan. All your notes remain accessible.
